Singh escapes from Lahore by dressing in Western guise his trademark hat and moustache and posing as a wealthy pro-Brit Indian. Despite the moving of the storyline in a typical action-thriller style, the movie scores at places. So taken in is he by the freedom movement, that he even buries sticks in the ground, because he thinks they will grow into more rifles to fight the British rulers. It looks as if the writer has taken the audience for granted, perhaps feeling that the viewer knows the complete story of the great freedom fighter minutely, and also of all those people who were associated with India's struggle for independence. This actually slows down the pace and tends to drag the narrative a bit and do not seem to prop up the film at all.

On the plus side, firstly, it's Bobby Deol who has played the role of his lifetime and infused life into the role of the immortal revolutionary. In jail, Singh organizes protests and a hunger strike — and finally has to be dealt with. He goes to the massacre site and fills his lunch box with the blood stained soil in remembrance of the carnage committed by the British. After being tortured in prison for months, he is finally sentenced and hanged to death on 23rd March 1931; a day earlier than the sentenced date, and his body quickly disposed off and cremated. Growing into a college-attending adult does not distract Bhagat Singh from his goal. Action director Guddu Dhanoa is a past master at action and explosions, but for that special feel of a 'historical touch', a far more 'into it' director was required. The dance moves are as intricate as you've ever scene Rai dance before, and she is backed by an arsenal of well-wishing women from Singh's household who dance around her, echo her sentiments and bless her with their love and support. After some time, the death of Lala Laajpatrai due to getting beaten by sticks while opposing the Simon Commission, sparked the feelings in the hearts of Bhagat Singh and others to seek vengeance from the responsible British officer - Malcom Scott. Aishwarya Rai as the fiancée of Bhagat Singh is another disappointment. His introductory sequence when he squeezes an eve-teaser is sure to be greeted with claps and cheers. This film is a 1 out of 10! The story is nothing but the biography of Bhagat Singh, the son of Sardaar Kishan Singh and nephew of Sardaar Ajeet Singh who devoted their entire lives to make their motherland, i.

Skilled in directing masala action-thrillers only, director Guddu Dhanoa could not grasp the sensitivity of the plot and the movie could not do justice to the personality of the great revolutionary and his invaluable sacrifice. His sharp mind, though very young, is full of curiosity and reasoning.
