I loved the television show, and it was hard for me to get into the new characterizations of the characters. I am told by my daughter, and I agree to an extent, that the new actresses for Ruby Mae and Fairlight were the only ones that lived up to the original characters. James Waterston plays an earnest and likeable David Grantland. All in all, with missing pieces and all, I find it a pretty well acted tale, with a great story, romantic where it should be romantic, and tragic where it should be tragic. The historical aspect alone makes almost worth seeing, but the series has a very saccharine flavor about it in spite of its thrust at historic accuracy. I love the book Christy and though I think it's usually hard for a tv or movie version of a book to totally live up to it's namesake, the first series did this job pretty well I think. I don't recommend this version at all but still recommend the book and the other television version of this story. The houses were too modernized and clean. Eventually, Alice is able to guide Christy back to the church, and when she does, Christy begins to see God--and David--in a new light.

I just love the whole Christy series, movie and mini-series. It seems to me someone meant well but missed the mark completely. Christy is also a great role model for any young girl.
