Hard to be objective about this work, since I resonated with her search for what made her mother tick. Yet her mother persisted in excusing him and trying to get him to man up. Guests traveled near and far to attend festivities on and off-campus including a commemoration of historical Prairie artwork at the Racine Art Museum, an alumni soccer game on the Ruud Family Soccer Complex, cinnamon rolls with Carol Malik and a social at The Red Onion Cafe in conjunction with Racine First Fridays. Friday morning came early as we headed out to Sierra Vista to promote the event on several radio stations. Starting the festival off was registrations in the lobby at Schieffelin Hall, and then it rode right into film screenings held inside the actual Schieffelin Hall. The crowd loved seeing all the stars and a special tribute was sung by Allison Balson Nancy Oleson.
Greetings from the Arlington Grand Prairie Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi® and welcome to our new website. This was to honour classmate Rick Down who invested much of his life in students at Prairie but was called to his eternal home in 2002. With exquisite tenderness and insight, Scot relives her childhood. It was heartwarming to see young people linger long after the formalities were over, connecting with alumni and forging new friendships. The audience was star studded, and filled with some of the greatest and most enthusiastic fans we have ever performed to. Thank you to those who attended and made it an unforgettable weekend. With modesty and grace, Prairie Reunion tells a universal story of age-old heartache and how that heartache can be assuaged and absorbed into a living present.
Barbara ponders why her mother made herself so secondary and how Barbara was made to feel women were a little less worthy. Scot soon realizes that she is in the midst of unraveling much more than the story of her mother…These moments add up to a quiet confirmation of certain truths: that people are human and thus prone to human weakness, that men have been as oppressed as women in our society and that, despite the difficulties, it is possible to reinvent one's self and even to alter one's personal landscape. There were parts I started to get into, but then it would drift off again. Thank you and welcome back to Prairie! A little scattered, a little boring. What a great time by all. By the end of the reunion journey she recounts in the book, Barbara has achieved a measure of peace about her parents and herself but in no way facile. Members from the classes of '68 and '78 returned in September to celebrate their 50th and 40th graduation anniversaries. Her mother died at 50 + probably because of her backbreaking efforts to pay off his debts and save the family farm.
